The Scottish Prisoner by Diana Gabaldon

By Diana Gabaldon

Random House Publishing Group; November 2011

The intended title of this book was "Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner" and it is the third book in the Lord John series, created by Diana Gabaldon. She renamed the book, because, according to Diana, the book is as much about Jamie Fraser (the Scottish prisoner) as it is about Lord John.

England, 1760. Jamie Fraser, a paroled prisoner of war, is working on a remote farm called Helwater in the Lake District of England, as he is summoned to London by Lord John, who is a former warden of the jail where Jamie was held after the Jacobite Rising. Lord John is in the possession of some documents that may have information about a new uprising in Ireland, and Lord John thinks that Jamie is the only person who can translate the documents. Together they travel to Ireland.
